Synopsis Part 2

We decided upon the synopsis of our film:

A group of friends go on a train to journey to their holiday destination. A mysterious stranger follows them and attacks them one by one. The remaining friends must find out the identity of the stranger, why he is doing this and escape before any harm can be done to them.

Our market audience are older teenagers. We would expect a rating of 15/18.

The film would receive funding from UK Film Council because it is essentially a british film, only missing the british topic, as the issue in our film could happen anywhere, at any time.

We had two main ideas for marketing, one would involve a website, which has a collage of train tickets each with different destinations, but all with the same date. when the user clicks on a ticket, it flips over, and a missing persons poster will be on the back, stating whomever went missing at that station.
Another idea we had was to work with Ticketmedia, which is a company that allows people to advertise on the back of tickets. It is estimated that around 21%  of people use the national rail every year, and around 5.5million London tube tickets are sold per month. to advertise on the back of these tickets would be successful as the film is about trains, and would reach a wide audience.

Poster

For our poster we decided to make three: one of people with luggage, one with a train and one with luggage on its own. we used these images as these were our original ideas for the trailer however we were unable to use the train station location so we captured them as an image rather than moving image. we decided on using three posters as it gives clues to the audience of what happens.

Music Choices

The choice of music is what will make the trailer, as it will help to create the atmosphere needed to entice the user to what to watch the actual film.

here are some of the ideas we had on what this choice could be...

The Exorcist theme song...

The House of Leaves

Train Sound

Synopsis

The idea behind the teaser trailer, entitled Derailed, is to make the audience question what is happening on screen, and then make them want to see the film to find out what is actually happening.
The trailer will mix shots of filmed luggage, with items of personal belongings strewn on the floor, near the entrance to villiers park with shots of a blank screen which will create tension and add confusion to the overall atmosphere.
The first shot will be looking at the black bag on the pathway, which will gradually get closer and the camera is zoomed in. The pathway that is behind the bag is very dark, helping to create the sinister feel that something is about to happen, it is just unsure as to what. Then the camera cuts to a close up of the bag, from where it will tilt upwards to see all the other items across the path. these shots will be sliced by blank screens, to add confusion. The final scene is the ticket floating to land next to a phone, from which you can hear someone cry ''hello''. when the ticket lands, the camera zooms in, to see that there is blood splatters across the ticket, with the location of foxton.

Our Plan So Far

We decided upon the idea of a frightening riddle quest story in which a person follows people from a train and kidnaps/kills them. Our protagonists then have to find out who the murderer is by solving a series of riddles that he sets them.

We used this trailer as inspiration:

We could use the catch phrase "Do not leave your luggage unattended".

We thought that we could have a happy song in the trailer, contrasting with the dark subject matter such as in the 13 advert:

We found a train song that we thought would be appropriate after we edit it:

The Song
We made a story board for the trailer and came up with some poster ideas that we will explore more tomorrow.
